US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called Iran’s calls for the arrest and execution of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi unacceptable.
“Calls in Iran for the arrest and execution of IAEA Director General Grossi are unacceptable and must be condemned. We support the IAEA’s important verification and monitoring work in Iran and commend the dedication and professionalism of the Director General and the agency’s staff,” Rubio wrote on his Facebook page.
He added that the US calls on Iran to ensure the safety and security of IAEA personnel.
He commented on an article in the Iranian newspaper Kayhan, which is controlled by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
“It must be officially announced that upon arrival in Iran (Grossi) will be tried and executed on charges of spying for the Mossad,” the newspaper said in an article cited by Iran Insight.
