A wildfire in California has spread quickly to 60,000 acres, making it the state’s largest fire of the year, CBS reported.

“As we approach the holiday weekend, the Madre Fire, the largest of 2025, serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers,” the U.S. Forest Service said.

A full-scale response has been launched, with seven air tankers, two helicopters, multiple fire trucks, and 608 personnel, including ground crews, according to officials.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said there were no immediate reports of casualties.

A fire broke out in the Los Padres National Forest, part of federal lands in central California, on Wednesday local time. That prompted evacuation orders and highway closures in residential areas of San Luis Obispo County, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles.
