Russia will face “very harsh” duties and secondary sanctions from the United States if no ceasefire or peace deal on Ukraine is reached in 50 days, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing.

US President Donald Trump threatened similar measures on July 14.

“As the president has clearly indicated, if there is no ceasefire agreement or peace agreement during this period, if Russia refuses to legitimately agree to a ceasefire, then they will face very high tariffs, as well as secondary sanctions. Thus, countries that buy oil from Russia will also be subject to sanctions, and, of course, this will cause serious damage to the Russian economy,” she said.

Leavitt stressed Trump’s desire for the conflict to be resolved diplomatically.
