The United States’ European allies will purchase not only defensive systems for Ukraine, but also artillery shells, bullets and other ammunition, said Matthew Whitaker, the American permanent representative to NATO.
“It is expected that there will be such things as artillery shells, bullets and ammunition,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg, commenting on future arms purchases by Europe for Kyiv.
Whitaker also noted that the United States intends to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the necessary weapons for use on the battlefield as part of European purchases, and added that he was waiting for “many” new statements from EU member states on the acquisition of weapons from Washington.
US President Donald Trump said earlier that the United States and the European Union had agreed to send American weapons to Kyiv, while the costs would fall on Europe. The supplies will include Patriot batteries, not just missiles.
