US President Donald Trump called on his team to act quickly when planning meetings with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, CNN reported, citing White House officials.
“Trump’s aides immediately began planning these meetings. Although it usually takes time to plan a presidential trip and an important meeting with two world leaders, officials noted that Trump is urging his team to act quickly,” the publication says.
On Wednesday, the New York Times newspaper, citing two sources familiar with the US president’s plans, claimed that Trump intends to meet personally with Russian leader Vladimir Putin next week, and shortly after that, to hold trilateral talks with Putin and Zelensky.
Putin received US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in the Kremlin on Wednesday. After the meeting, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Witkoff had received some signals on the Ukrainian issue, and in turn, corresponding signals had been received from American President Donald Trump.
