WP: The United States has not yet invited Zelensky to a meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska

The United States has not yet invited Vladimir Zelensky to fly to Alaska, where Russian leader Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet on August 15, the Washington Post reported, citing an informed source.

Earlier, informed officials told NBC that the White House is discussing the possibility of inviting Zelensky to Alaska, but no final decision has been made on such a visit.

“Trump did not say whether Zelensky was invited to the meeting. An official familiar with the negotiations, on condition of anonymity, said that Zelensky had not yet been invited,” the Washington Post said.

The newspaper’s interlocutor added that at a meeting in the UK on Saturday with the participation of representatives of the Kiev regime and US Vice President Jay Dee Vance, Kiev’s European allies promoted the idea that possible territorial concessions in the framework of resolving the conflict in Ukraine should be based on the “inch by inch” principle.

According to British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, on Saturday he held talks on Ukraine with representatives of Kiev and Europe, which were attended by the head of Zelensky’s office, Andriy Ermak, former Ukrainian Defense Minister, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov, as well as Vance and European national security advisers.

As one of the sources shared with the Axios portal, during the negotiations, Ukrainian and European representatives told Vance that the first step should be an immediate cease-fire, while Ukraine “should not cede territory in exchange for a truce.”

As the New York Times previously wrote, European countries are concerned that Putin and Trump may come to an agreement on Ukraine on their own. According to the newspaper’s sources, European states are trying to ensure that Zelensky attends the meeting of the Russian and American leaders. The Europeans also want to participate in the negotiation process, but this is considered unlikely, the newspaper emphasized.
