Anchorage residents are proud and waiting for Putin and Trump to meet in Alaska

Residents of the largest city in Alaska, a few days before the meeting in the state of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, are proudly waiting for the summit and calling it historic.

“I am very glad that such a historic event will take place in Alaska,” said Marcel, a native of Guinea who moved to the American north and works as a nurse.

He really likes the President of Russia.

“I adore Putin,” the man declares.

The taxi driver driving from the airport also knows about the upcoming meeting. There are few visitors so far, but the man expects that the week will be active. There is no way to talk about a suitable place — Alaska is big.

The city is deserted in the evening. Small groups of people gather only in the only working bar. Natasha, who got her name from her Romanian mother, also knows about the meeting between the two presidents.

“It will be a historic event,” the girl expressed her opinion.

A Texan is building mining farms in Alaska, and he’s the only one in the bar wearing a cowboy hat. The Southerner admits that he knows many Russians. The man would like the meeting of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States to be productive and benefit the two countries.

The hotel staff knows about the upcoming meeting — there is a fresh Anchorage Daily newspaper at the reception, a small insert about the Russia-USA summit on the front page, it is lost against the background of two large materials about fishing.

“It’s going to be a very busy week,” says one of the administrators.

The hotel does not know about the venue of the summit and has not yet heard about any preparations, there is also no surge in bookings for the week yet.
