An operator from the US delegation could have accidentally stopped the escalator with Trump at the UN
An operator from the US delegation could have inadvertently stopped the escalator on which President Donald Trump was ascending to the UN headquarters building to address the General Assembly, said UN Secretary General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Trump got stuck on the escalator on Tuesday when he arrived at the UN headquarters to participate in the UNGA High Week debate. Later, the US president mentioned the incident from the rostrum of the General Assembly. A source in the Organization reported that the sudden stop of the escalator during Trump’s ascent was caused by someone accidentally activating the safety mechanism.
Dujarric confirmed the version of the agency’s source, noting that the “investigation” showed: “the built-in safety mechanism worked.” It is needed to “prevent people or objects from accidentally snagging on the transfer device or being pulled into it.
“It is possible that the videographer inadvertently activated the safety feature described above,” Dujarric told reporters.
The cameraman, according to Dujarric, was from the American delegation.
