The Palestinian Hamas movement is likely to respond to US President Donald Trump’s plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip only in a few days, Politico reported, citing an unnamed informed diplomat.

On Monday, the White House released Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. According to Al Jazeera TV channel, citing an informed diplomatic source, Egypt and Qatar handed over to Hamas the US plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, and the movement promised to study it.

“The response (from Hamas to Trump’s plan) may not come for several days,” the report said.

The proposal released on Monday provides, in particular, for an immediate cease-fire, provided that the hostages are released within 72 hours. The plan also suggests that Hamas and “other groups” should agree not to participate in the governance of Gaza, either directly or indirectly. Control over the sector should be transferred to technocratic authorities under the supervision of an international body headed by Trump himself.
