US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff may leave the post of special envoy to US President Donald Trump at the end of 2025, The Times of Israel newspaper reported, citing an American official familiar with the situation.

According to the newspaper, Witkoff holds the position of a special government employee, whose service life is limited to about 130 days. At the same time, an extension is possible depending on the expected future service, The Times of Israel clarifies.

Nevertheless, according to the official, Witkoff is preparing to leave his post by the end of the year, especially given that a breakthrough in resolving the conflict in Gaza appears to be close.

The official added that “people in [Witkoff’s] office are already waiting to see what happens next,” and if the Gas deal goes through, the envoy will “gracefully bow out.”

On September 29, Trump received Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. This is the fourth visit of the Israeli leader to the United States in 2025.

One of the central topics of the US-Israeli talks was the 21-point plan proposed by the United States to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Witkoff mainly led the work on the plan, but elements of proposals from other participants in the negotiation process were incorporated into it, the Times of Israel noted.
