Chris Wright, the head of the US Department of Energy, warned on Fox News that, against the background of the ongoing shutdown, the United States is running out of money allocated to maintain the safety of nuclear stocks.
“The National Nuclear Safety Administration, the agency responsible for monitoring our nuclear reserves and the engines that power our submarines and aircraft carriers, has about 8 days of funding left,” the head of the ministry said.
According to him, after the remaining time, they will have to suspend their activities.
Wright added that the current situation is extremely ineffective and absurd.
In the United States, the so—called shutdown occurred on Wednesday – the suspension of government work caused by the lack of congressionally agreed budget funding for the new fiscal year.
On Friday, the Senate made another attempt to coordinate the financing of the government, but neither the Republican bill nor the proposal of the Democratic opposition could get enough votes.
The next attempt to vote on the budget is expected to be made on October 6.
