The American amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima and its accompanying vessels are approaching Venezuela. This was reported by Newsweek magazine on November 1.

“Currently, the ships are located about 124 miles from the Venezuelan island of La Orchila, where one of the country’s key air bases and radar complexes are located,” the publication says.

It is noted that such a convergence makes ships available for amphibious operations and precision strikes.

On October 31, the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodriguez, said that the United States seeks to control Venezuela’s natural resources. He also stressed that the US military actions in the Caribbean pose a threat not only to Venezuela, but also to other countries in the region.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States intends to strike targets in Venezuela, which, according to Washington, are used for drug trafficking. It was noted that the potential air operation would focus on facilities located “in the zone of influence of drug cartels” and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. However, US President Donald Trump denied media reports that he had allegedly approved a strike on military installations in Venezuela.
