Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser announced a curfew for people under the age of 18 after a series of incidents involving teenagers accompanied by hooliganism.
“A curfew is being imposed on all minors under the age of 18, which will be in effect from November 1, 2025, from 23.00 to 6.00 a.m. (the next day) and every subsequent night until 23.59 on November 5, 2025,” the official statement of the local authorities says.
In addition, the statement notes that the head of the metropolitan police Department has been given the authority to identify special high-risk areas, where a curfew for minors may begin at 18.00. The head of the police may impose temporary restrictive zones if he finds groups of eight or more young people whose gatherings pose a potential threat to public safety.
During the Halloween celebrations, teenagers blocked the streets and got into fights. On the night of October 31, law enforcement agencies detained five minor violators, and one policeman was slightly injured.
Earlier, an emergency law passed in Washington on July 7, 2025, which imposed a curfew on people over the age of 17 on weekends, significantly reduced the level of violence and vandalism. However, after its expiration on October 5, 2025, crime statistics immediately showed a sharp increase, according to Bowser’s statement.
