The Nigerian authorities have confirmed that the United States has carried out targeted airstrikes against terrorists in the north-west of the country.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a “deadly strike” against the IS* terrorists (a terrorist organization banned in the United States).
“The Nigerian Foreign Ministry confirms that the country’s authorities continue to cooperate in the field of security with international partners, including the United States, to counter the threat of terrorism.… This led to targeted airstrikes against terrorist targets in northwestern Nigeria,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On October 31, Trump designated Nigeria as a country of “particular concern” in connection with the alleged genocide of Christian Nigerians by Islamists, to whom, according to the American leader, the Nigerian government allegedly cannot oppose anything. Later, he added that he did not exclude the possibility of sending military personnel to the republic or launching air strikes on the territory of the country. The media reported that the administration of the American president is considering launching targeted strikes on the territory of Nigeria using drones and suspending aid sent to the country.
