Violators will be brought to justice under Shariah law

 The radical Taliban movement that came to power in Afghanistan banned poppy cultivation in the entire territory of the country. This order was issued by the movement’s supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada.

The Taliban leader’s order was quoted by Afghan news agency Bakhtar as saying that “all Afghans are henceforth informed about the strictest ban on the cultivation of poppies”. Violators of the order of the Supreme Leader of the Taliban will be tried according to Sharia law (Islamic law), and all crops found will be destroyed immediately.

In addition, Akhundzada’s decree prohibits “the use, transportation, trade, export and import of all kinds of drugs, as well as [containing narcotic substances] pills and alcohol. All narcotics production facilities on the territory of Afghanistan are also subject to the ban.

The decree of the Supreme Leader of the Taliban emphasizes, that  “the implementation of this decree is mandatory for all Afghans.”

The Taliban launched a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan after the announcement of the U.S. its military forces withdrawal from the country.
