Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani believes Americans are “already living in a fascist state”, The Hill reports. He made the statement amid searches that took place at his office as part of an investigation of Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in the state of Georgia.

After being told he was the subject of a Georgia investigation into the 2020 election, former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said on Monday that “we live in a fascist state”.

“This is another abuse of the Sixth Amendment. I was his lawyer in this case. My statements are either a legal secret because they were strictly about the two of us, or they were made on his behalf to protect him,” Giuliani told Newsmax, referring to former President Trump.

“When lawyers who defend their clients are made into defendants, it means we’re already living in a fascist state. Look, my office was just searched. I didn’t even think I would live to see this,” Giuliani said.

Earlier on Monday, Giuliani’s lawyer confirmed to The Hill that he was one of the subjects of an investigation into attempts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results in the state of Georgia through a grand jury.

Giuliani is listed in the subpoena as “former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney” and “lead counsel for Trump’s staff in its attempts to influence the November 2020 election results in Georgia and other states.”

The subpoena alleges that Giuliani testified and provided evidence in an attempt to prove that fraud occurred in Georgia’s 2020 election – including video of election officials in Atlanta sneaking in “suitcases” of fraudulent ballots from unknown sources from observers.

The subpoena alleges that while Georgia officials have subsequently denied the authenticity of the video, Giuliani has continued to make claims of election fraud, including referring to the footage.

“There is evidence that the witness’s statements and testimony at the hearing were part of a coordinated plan by Trump’s staff to influence the November 2020 election results in Georgia and other states,” the subpoena said..
