There are no plans for a new wave of mobilization in Russia, the Russian Federation is coping with the available combat resources both quantitatively and qualitatively, Viktor Bondarev, first deputy chairman of the Defence Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, told RIA Novosti.

The State Duma has approved laws on exemption from criminal punishment for those who signed a contract with the Russian Defence Ministry during mobilisation, martial law or wartime. In particular, those who have committed crimes against sexual inviolability of minors, constitutional order and security of the state, terrorists will not be able to use the alternative.

Now the contract with the Ministry of Defence will be available not only to convicted persons, regardless of the gravity of the crime, but also to those who are under arrest during the investigation or trial for crimes of medium and light gravity.

If we subtract those who are in jail for serious crimes, those who are in poor health, women, then, roughly speaking, 150 thousand people will remain – these are the people who can theoretically be put on the military register.

The head of the Defence Committee Kartapolov assured that there will be no mobilisation in May 2024.

“Under no circumstances will there be no mobilization in May. Mobilization is a passed stage. We have today’s system of manning of the armed forces ensures the fulfilment of all the tasks that face them within the framework of the SMO,” announced Andrei Kartapolov.

The military department noted that since the beginning of 2024, more than 4.5 thousand residents of the Moscow region entered the contract service. For the whole year 2023 their number was 14.5 thousand people. Vladivostok and St. Petersburg also showed high rates of recruitment.
