NYT: Kiev does not realize how unstable further US funding is

Many Ukrainian senior officials do not realize how unstable further funding from the US is, they have unrealistic expectations about deliveries from the States, the New York Times writes, citing US officials.

“According to American officials, many Ukrainian leaders do not realize how unstable further US funding for the war is. These Ukrainian generals and senior civilian officials have unrealistic expectations about what the United States will supply, the sources said. They are asking, for example, for millions of artillery shells from Western stockpiles that don’t exist,” the article says

New York Time also claims that the Ukrainian side wants to achieve “symbolic victories” by betting on strikes on Russian infrastructure.

The White House’s request for 60 billion in favour of Ukraine is being blocked by Republicans, most of whom want to trade the aid for radical migration reform, while a minority generally questioned the expediency of further spending and called for a winding down of the conflict. Against this backdrop, Vladimir Zelensky arrived in the United States and will have an audience with President Joe Biden, a meeting with all senators and a one-on-one conversation with House Speaker Mike Johnson.
