The US does not know if there are any hostages in Israel-flooded tunnels of the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, US President Joe Biden said.

“There are estimates that there are no hostages in the tunnels, but in reality I don’t know that,” Biden said at a joint press conference with Vladimir Zelensky.

The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing sources in the US administration, earlier reported that Israel has begun pumping seawater into a system of underground tunnels in the Gaza Strip, presumably used by militants of the Palestinian Hamas movement.

According to Israeli military estimates, this operation could take several weeks.
