AC: Putin’s interview showed that poor knowledge of Russia threatens the US

Vladimir Putin’s decision to grant an interview to American journalist Tucker Carlson showed that the US is “dangerously” poorly acquainted with Russia, this opinion was expressed by Thomas Dance, a former adviser to the US Deputy Treasury Secretary, in an article for The American Conservative.

“Tucker’s bold interview should show Americans a clear reality: we as a nation are dangerously unfamiliar with Russia, and this ignorance puts our own country at risk,” he writes.

Speaking about the Ukrainian conflict, Dance noted that the US needs to stop and think about what its real goals are in this country and whether they are in line with true American interests. It is for this purpose, according to the expert, it is necessary to better understand Russia’s position.

“The key problem for American politicians is that developing an understanding of the Russians takes time, effort and dedication,” Dans noted.

The analyst expressed hope that the US presidential election in November 2024 will allow to change the current situation and the new leadership will be able to “talk to Russia,” which, according to Dans, will not go anywhere even in a thousand years.

The American journalist published the interview with Putin on his website on the night of 9 February Moscow time, and then posted it on social network X and YouTube. Since its publication, the video has had more than 200 million views on X and more than 14 million views on YouTube. The interview also appeared on the Kremlin’s website.

In the interview with Carlson, Putin explained in detail that Moscow does not intend to attack NATO countries, in particular, Russia does not intend to attack Poland, Latvia or other Baltic states, with politicians in Western society regularly “scaring” their populations with the Russian threat, diverting attention from domestic problems. The Russian leader also noted that Western countries have begun to understand that Russia’s strategic defeat in the conflict with Ukraine is impossible, so if there is such an understanding, they should think about their further steps, with Russia ready for dialogue.
