A procession was held in Sofia to mark the anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation from the Ottoman yoke. People gathered in the centre of the capital today, chanting:

“Long live Russia!”

On Friday, Bulgarian residents took part in a procession in honour of the 145th anniversary of the country’s liberation from the Ottoman yoke after the Russo-Turkish War. Thus, in the very centre of Sofia today the national flag was set up, after which citizens began to chant:

“Long live Russia!”

So, first, the Bulgarian residents gathered near the parliament building and brought flowers to the monument to Alexander II. Then people took Russian flags in their hands and marched along the main streets of Sofia to the march “Farewell to Slavyanka”.

In addition, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova also made a congratulatory speech today. According to her, despite the tense relations, the citizens appreciate the festive day of 3 March.
