Politico: US postponed for a year the creation of the new nuclear submarine “District of Columbia”
The creation of the US nuclear-powered submarine “District of Columbia”, which was planned to replace the US Navy’s largest Ohio-class submarines, has been postponed for a year, media reports said.
The U.S. Navy report, cited in its account in the social network X by a reporter of the Politico publication, said that the delay in the execution of the contract for the construction of the submarine is estimated at 12-16 months.
Construction of smaller subs and a missile cruiser is being pushed back even further, the publication suggests.
The Columbia-class submarine was scheduled for completion in 2027, when it was set to replace the existing Ohio-class submarines – the largest in the Navy’s inventory.
