NATO has no plans to send combat troops to Ukraine, the alliance’s secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, has said on Polish TV.

Earlier, US State Department consultant Edward Luttwak said in an article for the online portal UnHerd that NATO would have to send troops to Ukraine because Kiev lacked military personnel, otherwise the alliance would be forced to accept a “catastrophic defeat”. He said Britain, France as well as northern European countries were already secretly preparing to send troops.

“We do not intend to send any combat units to Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.

At the same time, he called for strengthening the supply of arms to Ukraine.

“NATO allies are sending substantial military support to Ukraine. We should intensify these activities and transfer even more, especially air defence systems,” the NATO secretary-general said
