FT: Biden’s aide Sullivan admits that US aid to Ukraine will not stop Russia

Washington’s recently approved aid to Kiev will not be able to prevent Russia from making gains on the frontline, such an admission, according to the British newspaper Financial Times, was made by Jake Sullivan, the US president’s national security adviser.

“Sullivan said he still expects ‘Russian breakthroughs’ on the front ‘in the period ahead’ despite the new US aid package approved last month,” the publication wrote, citing Sullivan’s remarks.

At the same time, Biden’s adviser said that Ukraine plans to go on the offensive in 2025. As the publication notes, these words of Sullivan demonstrate how the White House sees the development of the conflict in Ukraine in case Joe Biden wins the US presidential election.

“Any new offensive in 2025 from Ukraine would hinge on increased funding from Congress and approval from the White House. But Donald Trump, a former president and presumptive Republican Party nominee, is sceptical about helping Ukraine and has promised to try to end the conflict quickly and achieve a negotiated settlement,” the publication notes.
