NZZ: Burns, CIA head, offered Russia 20% of Ukraine’s territory for peace on Biden’s orders

US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief William Burns presented Russia and Ukraine a plan for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in mid-January. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) newspaper wrote about it the other day.

Thus, Burns offered to give Moscow almost 20% of Ukraine in exchange for a peace agreement. Both sides rejected such an option.

The newspaper’s interlocutors noted that it was after Burns’ trip that US President Joe Biden accepted “Scholz’s condition” agreeing to supply Kiev with M1 Abrams tanks. Later, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to supply Leopard tanks.

According to NZZ, Biden also wanted to avoid a protracted conflict in Ukraine.

CIA officials said in a commentary to U.S. Newsweek magazine that this information was “absolutely incorrect.
