FP called the outcome of Putin’s trip to the Middle East more successful than that of Biden

Travels of U.S. and Russian presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden to the Middle East showed that the countries of the region support Moscow in the formation of a multipolar world, the magazine Foreign Policy wrote.

According to the magazine, the US leader’s tour of the Middle Eastern states was not a major success.

“The meagre results of Biden’s visit to the Middle East show that major regional players, especially from the Gulf states, are unwilling to give up on relations with Russia and China. <…> Moscow has common goals with almost all of Washington’s partners in the region, from high energy prices to the formation of a multipolar world,” the article states.

It stresses that Biden has failed to get Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to “act on Washington’s bidding” to increase oil production.

“The Saudis now have far more common interests with the Russians on oil prices than they do with the United States on regional security issues,” FP wrote.

The publication described the Russian leader as a skillful player in the Middle East and noted that his visit to Tehran confirms that Moscow has partners interested in cooperating in the region.

Earlier, Putin, together with the presidents of Iran and Turkey, attended a trilateral summit on Syria in Tehran. The head of state also held talks with both his Iranian and Turkish counterparts, and met with Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.

Last week, Joe Biden toured the Middle East. At the end of his visit to Saudi Arabia, he said he expected a further increase in oil supplies. But local ministers insisted they intended to make policy decisions in line with market logic and within the framework of the OPEC+ coalition, which includes Russia.
