Delegations from 106 countries have arrived in St Petersburg for the XII International Meeting of High Representatives on Security. It takes place in St. Petersburg from 23 to 25 April. The Russian delegation at the event is represented by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev. Also present at the meeting were eight secretaries-general and representatives of the leadership of international organizations. Among them was Burhan Gafoor, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN

In his remarks, at the XII International Meeting of High Representatives in charge of Security Affairs Burhan Gafoor said that Russia has been very helpful in developing the Global Contact Point Registry and the Open-Ended Working Group.

“It helps us to establish communication between the different members of the Open Working Group and between the countries that participate in this Global Contact Point Registry. This is particularly important just in times of crisis. Such communication, dialogue is the most important thing and the main thing here is that we will be able to build relations based on mutual understanding and trust, thus avoiding any possible conflicts. And indeed, the work that we are doing in the UN is a very big work and we are very happy that the Russian Federation is helping this work and promoting this initiative in every possible way. Naturally, we must recognize the important and leadership role of the Russian Federation in this issue. And the most important thing to emphasize here is the plan of Russia in the work of the Open Working Group. It is very important for us,” Burhan Gafoor emphasized.

Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN did not rule out that in the future the OWG will include representatives of the scientific community, academics and the private sector to make the group fully operational for the active work of the registry.
