U.S. President Joe Biden was unaware of the existence of classified documents in his largely unsecured office at the Penn Biden Center think tank during his vice presidency. The head of state disclosed this on Tuesday, Jan. 10, during a press conference.

“I was informed of this find and surprised to learn that there were some government records there. I don’t know what’s in the documents,” the American leader said.

The day before, on Jan. 9, CBS News reported the discovery of about 10 classified materials in Biden’s office, which were kept together with papers that did not contain classified data. The discovery was reported to the national archives, after which the American leader’s lawyers offered to take the papers themselves as they were not the subject of the investigation.
