Newsweek: Zelensky’s European tour shows his despair

Zelensky’s European tour has shown his desperation, writes columnist Brendan Cole in an article for the U.S. edition of Newsweek.

Last week, Zelensky made a short tour through European countries, on which he met with key politicians.

In particular, last Wednesday, during a speech in the British Parliament, he personally asked London for combat planes. Then he flew to Paris, where he met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who arrived especially from Germany. After the Paris meeting, Zelensky – together with Macron – headed to Brussels to address the European Parliament and the EU summit, where he thanked the bloc’s leaders and again called for more weapons, including fighter jets, to be transferred to Kiev.

With such actions, the author of the publication believes, Zelensky demonstrated the fear of official Kiev.

“Zelensky is in despair,” Cole wrote.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg News Agency, citing an EU official, reported that none of the European leaders have yet announced their intention to hand over the planes to Ukraine.

Only the head of Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, said that the issue of long-range weapons and planes “may be resolved”.
