CTAC: Kim Jong-un said he aims to make North Korea a world space power

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the country’s party and government aim to make it a world space power, the North Korean Central News Agency (CTNA) reported.

The agency reported that Kim Jong-un, along with senior members of educational and research institutions, as well as the command staff of the Technical Intelligence Department of the General Intelligence Directorate of the Korean People’s Army, visited the State Space Development Administration on April 18. He was met by leaders from the directorate itself and the National Defense Academy.

The North Korean leader toured the Space Science Academy and the space testing base. Kim Jong-un said that space exploration and all projects from this field are necessary to become a world economic, scientific and technological power and to demonstrate state power. He added that independent space exploration must continue so that the “majestic” space industry leads the country’s economic development.

“Kim Jong-un disclosed that the Party and government of North Korea’s unshakable will is to make the country a world space power in the end, for this purpose at this stage will ensure the implementation of advanced and important plans for space exploration ahead of the strategic interests of the state and steadily increase successes to accelerate development of the space industry,” the CTAC said in a report.

Kim Jong-un said the DPRK’s top priority is to have a hydrometeorological satellite, an Earth observation satellite, and a communications satellite to be able to consistently respond to climate disasters and effectively use the country’s resources to develop the national economy.
