WHO chief Ghebreyesus: Gaza Strip threatened with famine amid Israeli army shelling
The head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the Gaza Strip is threatened with famine amid Israeli army shelling.
“Gaza is facing starvation amid continued shelling,” the WHO chief wrote on social network X.
He called for food and medicine to be allowed into the enclave and for health facilities to be protected.
“To stop the ongoing tragedy, immediately cease fire and allow full access for humanitarian aid,” Ghebreyesus added.
According to the media office of the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority, more than 2 million residents of the Gaza Strip are currently “suffering from severe shortages of food, water, medicine and shelter.”
