United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the U.S. would support Finland and Sweden joining NATO, Reuters reported.

“We certainly hope that they will make that decision. If that’s what they decide, we will strongly support it,” Blinken said.

He could not yet say when the Scandinavian countries would join the military-political bloc, he noticed.

“As you know, there will be a NATO summit soon. I expect that we will have specific information by the time it starts,” Blinken explained.

Earlier it became known that the Swedish government does not want to hold a referendum on the country’s membership in NATO. According to Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, there is a lot of information on the issue, which concerns the state security of Sweden and is classified as secret, which means it cannot be discussed.
