Algeria has submitted official documents to join the interstate association BRICS. Leila Zarouki, special envoy of the country’s Foreign Ministry for international partnership, said this, quoting Al-Shuruq.

“Algeria has submitted a formal application to join the BRICS group,” the diplomat said during an appearance on Algerian state radio.

Earlier in August, Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun announced the country’s desire and readiness to join the BRICS.

The Russian ambassador to the Arab country, Valerian Shuvaev, said that Russia saw no obstacles for Algeria to join the organization, which already includes Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa.
