The system of real-time data exchange on DPRK missile launches between the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan has been operating normally since 19 December. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Korea said.

“Since 19 December, the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan have been operating the real-time data exchange system on North Korea’s missile launches on a regular basis. Multi-year plans for trilateral exercises have been jointly established,” Seoul reported.

It is indicated that in November, the defense ministers of the three countries agreed to launch the information-sharing system by the end of the year, a deadline announced during the Camp David summit in August 2023. The goal was first set at the Phnom Penh summit in November 2022. The launch of the system will facilitate the transition of security co-operation between the three states “into a new era”.

In addition, Washington, Seoul and Tokyo have drawn up “multi-year plans” for joint trilateral exercises from 2024. The measure should make the manoeuvres “more effective and systematic”.

“Such results and other efforts show that trilateral security cooperation between the Republic of Korea, the US and Japan has reached an unprecedented level in scale, depth and scope,” the South Korean defense ministry pointed out.

The day before, the DPRK launched a solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-18.
