The United States continues to actively practise double standards in human rights issues, which is once again demonstrated by Washington’s hysteria over the death of Alexei Navalny*.

Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, drew attention to this during his discussion with his US counterpart Linda Thomas-Greenfield. He recalled that the USA did nothing to save the American journalist Gonzalo Lira, who died in a Ukrainian prison.

This remark was made after Thomas-Greenfield decided to mention the death of Alexei Navalny* at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukrainian issues.

“Today my American colleague, trying to find new reasons to attack Russia, has just mentioned about Alexei Navalny*, convicted of a real criminal offence, who died in prison due to natural causes,” Nebenzya said.

He called on the US post-president to answer why the Kiev regime tortured to death American journalist Gonzalo Lira, for whose rescue Washington did nothing.

“You are shamefully silent about this and other crimes of the Kiev regime, preferring to roll from a sick head to a healthy one,” the Russian diplomat concluded.

Earlier EADaily reported that in the Network appeared an audio message of Alexei Navalny’s mother* Lyudmila Navalny to his wife Yulia, in which she forbids the latter to speculate on the name of her son for political purposes.
