TikTok has called attempts to ban it in the US an attack on constitutional freedoms

Social network Tiktok said its ban in the US would deprive 170 million Americans of their constitutional right to freedom of expression.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee earlier approved a bill that would order Chinese company ByteDance to sell Tiktok, which it owns, under the threat of blocking the social network in the US.

“This bill has a predetermined outcome: a total ban of Tiktok in the US. The authorities are trying to take away from 170 million Americans their constitutional right to freedom of expression. It will hurt millions of entrepreneurs, deprive artists of an audience, and undermine the well-being of countless creators across the country,” the social network responded.

To take effect, the bill must be approved by both houses of Congress and signed by the president.
