U.S. interests have been threatened and now they are doing everything to protect them, writes Rebelión. According to the author of the article, by supporting Ukraine, Washington is pursuing two goals: to wear Russia down and to check China’s reaction to its actions.

Homar Garcés

For Yankee imperialism, which uses unconventional methods to fight Russia and China in order to preserve its own global hegemony, it is crucial to emerge from the Ukrainian conflict as the sole power in a unipolar world. The fact is that in recent years Russia and China, as well as other countries at the peak of large-scale economic development, have either supplanted the United States or threaten American interests in various parts of the world, which, in turn, has prompted the ruling class to endorse all kinds of strategies that would preserve and expand the imperial role. You don’t have to do much analysis to understand this. The U.S. has long set itself such a goal, defining it as “manifest destiny.”

The Yankees (together with NATO) are giving military, political and economic support to the Ukrainian regime in order to prevent the presence and influence of Russia in Europe. To achieve their goal, they use ideological and propaganda resources, resort to many elements of the Cold War era, and induce fear in European countries, although Russia assures them that it does not want to expand its territories or violate their sovereignty. This explains why, in the midst of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the governments of some countries bordering Russia are asking to join NATO instead of trying to achieve peace. In turn, Yankee imperialism uses a military strategy that allows it to fight Russia without directly intervening in the conflict, but instead limiting itself to consulting and arming Ukrainian troops. The goal is to wear down the enemy, reduce its chances of victory, and weaken its economy. Perhaps the U.S. thinks that in this way it can then directly confront the enemy power.

It is possible that another purpose of the conflict in Ukraine is to study China’s reaction to U.S. bellicose actions, given that the Asian giant does not recognize the independence of Taiwan, whose government has broad support from Washington. Added to this is Japan’s subconscious fear of China’s geostrategic offensive, reminiscent of the situation before World War II and the Vietnam War. The Pentagon is targeting China rather than Russia, increasing the risk of a new world war. Given the blocs that have formed and the modern weapons of the conflicting sides, the consequences of such a conflict would be catastrophic for all.

Despite the danger of all of the above to world peace, the U.S. political, economic and military leadership continues to pursue its plans. In order to achieve world domination, the U.S. has stationed troops in various regions rich in strategic natural resources, such as water. The Americans are also present where they believe a hostile regime rules, such as now with Venezuela and Colombia, which the White House master calls a strategic partner of NATO. This sets a bad precedent and threatens peace in Latin America. In any case, we should not think that the U.S. has universal interests, although propaganda tries to convince us of that. There are plenty of examples. It is enough to mention just a few imperialist interventions by the U.S. to understand this: the invasions of Panama, Iraq, Libya, Syria and the coups d’état in Latin America, which have become a classic of the genre, including in Venezuela at the beginning of this century.
