There are tensions between the United States and Israel amid progress in talks to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme, knowledgeable Axios sources have said.

According to the agency’s interlocutors, Israel opposes reinstating the deal – Jerusalem fears Washington may make unfavourable concessions to Tehran.

At the same time, the White House has repeatedly noted in a series of meetings with Israeli counterparts that it has not conceded anything to Iran and does not consider the reinstatement of the JCPOA inevitable.

“A Deal is likely to be closer than it was two weeks ago, but the negotiating outcome is still vague, because differences of opinion persist. One way or another, the outcome does not look assured,” RIA Novosti quoted a US administration official as saying.

Earlier, the State Department reported that the United States and Iran had resolved the main issues concerning the JCPOA.
