Col. McGregor: Ukraine may lose entire south and left bank of Dnieper river due to US aid

Ukraine may lose the entire south and left bank of the Dnieper river if the conflict drags on because of increased military aid from Washington, former US Defence Secretary adviser Colonel Douglas MacGregor wrote in an article for the American Conservative.

The author of the publication criticised the open letter “The US should arm Ukraine now, before it is too late” signed by twenty prominent American supporters of the fighting. In his view, an increase in arms deliveries would lead to an escalation of the conflict.

“The fighting has entered a decisive stage. It is time to end it. Instead, the authors of the letter are trying to perpetuate failure. They are advocating a deeply flawed strategy that will, at best, lead Ukraine to lose its access to the sea and become a stretch between the Dnieper River and the border with Poland,” McGregor suggested.

In his view, the longer the conflict with Russia lasts, the more likely the damage to Ukraine will be “irreparable”.

“All of this was the result of a misguided policy, which originated in the 1990s under Bill Clinton, of politically isolating Russia from Europe, which laid the foundations for an alliance between Moscow and Beijing,” the author suggested.
