Global Times: NATO to cut arms supplies to Ukraine due to depletion of European countries

European members of NATO will cut aid and arms supplies to Ukraine due to economic exhaustion, according to a Global Times article.

“As a result, the likely scenario is a sharp reduction in NATO assistance to Ukraine, while supplies will remain only at a symbolic level,” the paper noted.

According to the paper, European countries have been hit hard by the conflict in Ukraine, which has been reflected in rising energy bills and the highest inflation, while public support for Kiev is falling.

“It is likely that NATO officials, particularly Stoltenberg, will soon face mounting pressure. Although the alliance secretary general has urged European countries to continue providing supplies to Ukraine, judging by their actual economic situation, if they continue, it will become an unbearable burden for them. Such aid would certainly not be sustainable,” Liu Xiang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the portal.

The article also noted that the contradictions between the US and Europe are becoming increasingly visible.

“European countries are frustrated with the US selling them energy at skyrocketing prices amid the energy crisis. And Washington’s inflation-targeting legislation has seriously hurt their interests. It is already clear to some politicians that the US hopes to use the conflict in Ukraine to weaken Russia and Europe and increase the continent’s dependence on Washington,” the article pointed out.
