Axios: in Colorado, the FBI is investigating threats to the judges who removed Trump from the primaries

The FBI is investigating threats against members of the Colorado supreme court, which last week barred former US President Donald Trump from participating in the state’s Republican Party primaries, online publication Axios writes.

The court’s verdict, which Trump himself intends to appeal, provoked a surge of aggressive rhetoric against the judges by supporters of the former US leader on social media.

“The FBI and (city of) Denver police are investigating threats against Colorado supreme court justices,” the publication said.

Axios quoted a Denver police spokesman as saying that law enforcement is on heavy patrol in the judges’ neighbourhoods.

The judges considered Trump’s alleged involvement in a “mutiny” – the storming of the Capitol on 6 January 2021 in an attempt to thwart congressional approval of Democratic rival Joe Biden’s electoral victory – as grounds for removing him from the primaries, by which Republicans choose their presidential nominee in 2024.
