Ex-Pentagon advisor Freeman: there was a split in NATO because of Russia’s victories

The West’s failures in the conflict with Russia in Ukraine have led to a split in NATO, former US Assistant Secretary of Defence for International Security Affairs Chas Freeman said in an interview with YouTube channel Dialogue Works.

“NATO’s pre-existing facade of unity has cracked. Now some NATO members are openly rejecting the idea of continuing this conflict (in Ukraine. – Editor’s note),” the former diplomat noted.

Freeman suggested that Russia’s destruction of NATO’s “best weapon” has led to discrediting the military capabilities of the Western bloc.

The former Pentagon adviser added that the West had failed to achieve international isolation of Russia. According to him, most countries of the world do not support the course of the US and its allies on confrontation with Moscow.

In addition, the West’s sanctions have not only failed to weaken Russia, but also made its economy more powerful, the expert said. Freeman pointed out that the restrictions only hit countries such as Germany, which lost access to Russian fuel.
