Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that former US President Donald Trump has suffered enough and, like a hero of Hungarian folk tales, will be able to win the presidential election as a result.

“I’ve been in this ‘sport’ for quite a long time, and in my experience, you can only win if you suffer for it. And he (Trump) is suffering like a dog for it right now. What he’s going through is almost unprecedented. He won’t get his victory as a gift, he will suffer for it. I am sure that the one who goes through such a purifying fire, who wants to be jailed, put on trial, deprived of assets, whose nomination they want to ban, but he fights and as a result is nominated, the one who, as it happens in Hungarian folk tales, will win in the end,” Orban said in an interview with M1 TV channel.

Trump faces a total of 91 charges in four criminal cases in what the Republican politician calls an attempt by the Democratic establishment to prevent him from returning to the White House. The most severe counts threaten Trump with 20 years in prison. If the punishment is determined by adding up the terms, he could be sentenced to several centuries in prison. The politician faces more than 700 years in prison on the combined charges.

Orban expressed support for Trump when he was indicted. In particular, Orban posted a joint photo with Trump taken in August 2022 at the former US president’s estate in Bedminster, New Jersey, before speaking at the opening of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas at Trump’s invitation.
