US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen signed a bilateral defence cooperation agreement in Washington. The broadcast was carried by the State Department.

The 10-year agreement will allow the US to station troops and military equipment on Danish territory in the short and long term. Washington will also have access to three Danish air bases.

“The defence cooperation agreement we are about to sign will strengthen further security cooperation between our countries. Once it comes into force, our troops will be able to coordinate their actions more effectively. They will conduct exercises more coherently, which will enhance interoperability within NATO,” Blinken said before signing the agreement.

The US secretary of state also noted Denmark’s contribution to helping Ukraine and reiterated the necessity for Congress to approve additional budgetary appropriations to support Kiev, among other things.

On Monday, the US signed a similar bilateral agreement with Finland. It will give US troops access to 15 military bases on the territory of the republic.
